Jim Croce
The exceptionally talented Pop artist Gino Vannelli has released his CD entitled Powerful People. I am very confident and happy to announce that I believe Gino Vannelli fans, and Pop fans alike will be pleased with this one. With the release of Powerful People Gino Vannelli's artistic excellence is on full display as Vannelli has once again delivered a brilliant collection of tracks that could very well be him best work to date.
It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that's exactly what I must say about this one. There simply isn't a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.
One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you've got one of Gino Vannelli's most impressive releases ever.
Overall Powerful People is an outstanding release. Quite possibly Gino Vannelli's best to date. Really sensational from beginning to end. If you're even mildly into Pop music you'll enjoy this album.
While the entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 3 - Son Of A New York Gun, track 8 - The Work Verse, and track 9 - Poor Happy Jimmy (Tribute to Jim Croce).
My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - People Gotta Move. Outstanding!

Disregard the Wikipedia entry on "Mr. Bojangles" and the countless other Web pages concerning this song. Jim Croce never recorded "Mr. Bojangles," which was written by Jerry Jeff Walker. This is a common mistake that has been frequently repeated.

Over the last month I attended two birthday parties for young girls. Although each party was quite different, they both included plenty of fun party games. Later I stopped to consider the question, "What should you consider when planning party games for children?"
You should start by thinking about the children who will be attending the party. For example:
(a) What is their age range? Although some games appeal to a wide range of ages, others are better suited to a particular age group. Young children really love "Duck, Duck, Goose" as they sit on the ground and jump up to run around, but teenagers with longer legs may find it too awkward. On the other hand, "Balloon Volleyball" may require co-ordination and skills that are difficult for young children while teenagers love the boisterous nature of the game.
(b) What is the mixture of boys and girls? As a general rule (and there are exceptions), boys tend to like more active games than girls. Try to choose the types of fun party games your guests would prefer.
(c) Do any of the children have physical or other disabilities that may preclude them from joining certain types of games? Include games where everyone can participate, at least some of the time.
You will also need to consider the space you have available to play games. In Australia we can play outdoor games any time of the year, but in other countries you may need to plan more indoor games. How much room does each game require? Is there enough space indoors or in the back yard? Could active games damage decorations or delicate furniture? Is there an alternative venue to play party games? If you live in the inner city, can you play outdoor games in a nearby park?
Provide a mixture of quiet and active games. For example, "Musical Newspapers" is an active game based on "Musical Chairs" that can be played indoors or outdoors. "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" is a quieter game. You can also include musical games like "Pass the Parcel". Try to avoid moving from area to area too much though. Start with quieter indoor games and then move outdoors for the more active games.
A further tip is to prepare a box with all the things for the games, such as newspapers, balls and a CD/cassette player. The equipment for "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" and "Pass the Parcel" should be included, along with a list of the games and quick instructions to remind you about each game.
Consider having a friend or someone else run the games, especially if you are busy with other party details. An adult or older child who is enthusiastic yet sensitive would make a great games leader. Young children, especially, can become quickly bored so the leader may need to change games even if some children are wanting to continue playing (particularly if they are winning). A good leader will be ready to discard a game that is not working well, and will be able to encourage a child to join in, always with sensitivity. Most children love games. The leader should use enthusiasm to enable them to enjoy themselves fully.
Finally, try to plan more fun party games than you expect you will need. It may be necessary to discard some of your planned games or you may need to add more games if the food is not ready on time, for example. Allow about five minutes per game and then add five or more extra games. If you find you have run out of games for any reason, races are simple to organise and can be run indoors or outdoors. Simply set up two start and finish lines. Children can run forwards, backwards or sideways. They can skip, hop or jump, or can hold their ankles or their knees with their arms crossed. They can link arms (side by side, or back to back) or hold hands with a partner. Then they can crawl, leapfrog, and so on. After that, you could start all over again with relays!
To summarise the main points, choose games that will suit both the children who will attend and the area you have available. Find a variety of fun party games, with extra games planned in case you need them for any reason. Find a resource that has plenty of children's party games to make it easier in your planning, and don't forget to enjoy yourself. Enthusiasm is infectious!

Do you know the name of this album/cassette!?
It was one of the first i bought and was a various artist compilation from 1989, it had two songs i remember Prince's Batdance (from the original Batman Movie) and The Beach Boys - Kokomo. I would love to get it again but cant for the life of me find it or remember its title!

I'm guessing it would have to be some top 40 hits from the 80s compilation. The Bat-dance was on the Batman soundtrack and that Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" made that Beach Boys song all popular again. (gag) I cant think of any other reason those two songs would be on an album together unless it was a hits of the 80s thing. Like Casey Casem or something.

What exactly are simple machines? How do they work? And how do you make learning about simple machines easy for your children? Learning about simple machines can be accomplished by using common examples to help your child comprehend these basic scientific concepts. Hand tools, silverware, even parts of the human body can all be considered simple physical machines.
Any physical machine makes work easier to accomplish. To a scientist, work is the amount of force (a push or a pull) used along the distance upon which the force acts, or the product of force and distance. For work to be done in a scientific sense, the object must move in the same direction in which the force acts. As you carry a heavy stack of books across the room, you do not do work on the books, since motion and force act in different directions. The motion is in the horizontal direction, along the floor, while the force is straight up, acting against the weight of the books. When you lift the stack of books straight up, you do work on the books, since the applied force and the direction of motion are the same. If you carry the books up or down a flight of stairs, then you do work on the books along the height of the stairs.
Simple, physical machines make work easier by multiplying either the force on the object or the distance involved. A see saw does work on the people sitting on either end. Have you ever changed your position on one end of a see saw to allow a small child sitting on the other end to go up and down? You adjusted one part of a lever to allow it to do work, that is, to lift up the people on each side easier. Learning about simple machines is as easy as you and your child experimenting with this concept using a ruler, a pencil, and a few coins. Place the ruler across the pencil at a right angle to the pencil and at the middle of the ruler. Place one coin after another on alternating ends of the ruler and at different distances from the pencil until the ruler balances on the pencil. What do you notice about the types of coins you use? How far away are the coins from the pencil? How many coins do you place on each side of the ruler?
Depending upon your reference, simple machines can be classified into many categories, but the two basic groupings are levers and inclined planes. A lever has two sections, or lever arms, which move around a fixed point called a fulcrum. Levers may include an automobile jack, wheelbarrow, see saw, broom, shovel, or a forearm of a human. An Inclined plane is a ramp or slanted surface along which a force moves an object to different elevations. Two inclined planes placed back to back form a wedge that is used to split things apart. Inclined planes include staircases, screws, mountain roads, and the front teeth of a human.
Most ordinary hand tools are composed of simple, physical machines. A pen or a pencil is a lever. A door knob that turns is a lever, both for pulling or pushing the door and the door knob itself. A nut cracker is a lever. A wall light switch is a lever. A crowbar is a lever. The length of a nail is a lever, while its pointed tip is an inclined plane. The length of a table knife is a lever and its blade is an inclined plane. A fork is a lever and so is a spoon. The tines on most forks end in points, therefore they are inclined planes. A hand-operated pencil sharpener is a combination of levers and inclined planes. Examine a pair of scissors closely. Can you find these simple machines? The lengths of the blades and handles are levers. The tiny post the levers turn around is a wheel and axle and also a lever. The blades are inclined planes. One edge of each blade is narrower than the other, forming a miniature ramp. By identifying these common items children are learning about simple machines without even realizing it.
You can use every day examples to aid your children in learning about simple machines. They can help explain what simple machines are and how they function. With practice children can distinguish physical objects as simple machines and determine how they operate. Simple physical machines can be located in the kitchen, in the garage, in the toolbox, and even in the human body.

She is a pretty cool singer! Lorie has a beautiful light voice, and it's very flexible sounding. The light quality in her voice sounds similar to the lead singer of Pink Martini, who my vocal performance teacher suggested I practice with. I heard from a friend Lorie is considered the Britney Spears of France...minus the bad behaviour.

Aylin Berkay exhibited three distinguishing physical characteristics in each of the 12 films she made -- no matter whether she was acting in a comedic role (as in Oooh Oh! opposite Aydemir Akbaş and Kamer Baba [real name: Kamer Sadık]) or in a more serious role (as in Esmerin Adı Sarışının Tadı with Tarik Şimsek and Zerrin Doğan).
The first thing to strike your eye when Aylin Hanım appears on screen is her great long mane of bright blond hair -- which (as a budding poet once wrote) was "not to match what mats there down."
Later, when the plot requires a less fully clothed Aylin, you notice her second physical characteristic -- a boyish upper torso.

Exactly when Ali Berkay (or possibly Ali Saraç) had 'the op' and changed to Aylin Berkay is not recorded.
But after making films like Oooh Oh! and Beyoğlu Piliçleri (Beyoğlu Chicks) as a woman, she quit making movies entirely after 1979 -- and reinvented herself
as a stage singer and recording artist, under the name Serbülent Sultan.
Other notable transsexual Turkish performers of stage and screen include: Emel Aydan (whose male name was Erdoğan Kaşif -- and who once had a nightclub striptease act in Milan, performing under the name of Rita Santiago), Tijen Erman (aka Christian Carol), Derya Sonay, and Ahenk Dalgalıdeniz.
And here you thought, dear reader, that Bülent Ersoy 'wrote the book' on transsexual Turkish performers...

Sexual Attraction - Fads and Fashions.........?
Something I've always wondered about. For humans sexual attraction depends a lot on fashion, i.e. style of clothes, hair, etc., and the fashions we find attractive today are different from the fashions in the past. There are some fashions in the past which they found sexually attractive, but now we find completely unattractive. And these fashions can change over very short periods of time.
However in the animal kingdom the things that provide sexual attraction remain constant. A male lion always has a big bushy mane, or a peacock always has the same tail. These things are constant.
Why is this?

hair is certainly still a factor is sexuall attration and males hair is often referred to as a mane.
Of course we dont go around naked so the colurs and patterns of our clothes have to substitute for various physical features.
the obvious physical endowments of men and women are still accentuated in the designs of clothing since clothing became an industry
