Black Sabbath

The Gibson SG guitar is one of the most coveted guitars in history. Many musicians over the years have fallen in love with the SG and have remained loyal to Gibson. Here is a bit of the history of the SG for you to enjoy.

Around the year 1960, the Gibson guitar makers were suffering through a sales slump. Not that the Les Paul was not selling, as it was and very nicely. The trouble was that music was evolving and musicians were looking for a sound, or tone, different from what the Les Paul offered.

So in 1961, Gibson radically altered the body shape so it was now thinner, more lightweight and now featured a double cutaway neck area that permitted deeper access to the higher frets. The neck took on a heavier construction and the neck joint was raised approximately three frets higher. This was done in hopes of competing with Fender's Stratocaster model, which was gaining popularity then.

The new design was marketed with the "fastest neck in the world" and this was largely a fact. The neck had a thinner profile (from the side) and with the higher neck joint, the heel was no longer an obstruction, as was the case with the Les Pauls.

Another name was sought because the guitar looked nothing like a Les Paul. Since the guitar was it's inventor's namesake, Les Paul (the inventor of the electric guitar and the Les Paul design) asked that his name removed from the new design completely.

So, the good people at Gibson brainstormed and called the new model an "SG". Ironically enough, this was simply short for "solid guitar".

The Gibson factory had an abundance of plastic "Les Paul" nameplates in stock. So even though Les Paul's name was removed in 1961, Gibson continued to manufacture SG's with the nameplate between the topmost pickup and the fret board until the end of 1963. Finding one of these early SG's with a Les Paul nameplate would truly be a valuable collector's item.

Since the SG was introduced in early 1961, numerous variations have been made carrying the SG name. There was a standard model (SG Standard) as well as a junior model (SG Junior). Then the top of the line Gibson SG Custom made the scene. Curiously, the SG Customs manufactured from 1961-63 did not say 'SG' on them, yet they did have a Les Paul signature plate under the fret board, as did all Les Paul's.

From 1961 to early '63, the truss rod cover on the SG Standard was engraved with "Les Paul". The SG featured a small pick guard on models made between 1961 and 1965. Then, in 1966, another slight redesigning took place. Now the SG had a different type of neck joint and a batwing-shaped pick guard appeared on models from 1967 upwards.

The design was firm until around 1970 or so. The year 1971 saw the release of a new version of the SG with a floating pick guard reminiscent of the Les Paul. Also the control plate was mounted from the front to decrease construction cost.

A variety of quality tailpieces were offered as options as well. Notable ones were the "Maestro", the "Lyre Vibrola" and the Bigsby vibrato tremolo arm. A few new designs were brought into play with the new tailpiece design. A few of these were the SG 100 (a low end version that was more affordable) and the SG 200 (with two single coil pickups). On the higher end of the SG spectrum were the SG Pro and the SG Deluxe models.

Gibson returned to the original design of the SG in 1973. The pick guard went retro to the small original pick guard and the controls were moved to the rear again and the neck was set deeper into the body with a joining point around the twentieth fret. But by the end of that decade, all the SG models reverted mostly to the old design. Current models are now made with 1967-1969 constructions, the larger LP style pick guard that encases the pickups on the SG body. Variations are still available with the small pick guard. Re-issues of the SG are common and popular.

These guitars resemble their 1960's brothers except that a stop tailpiece is now standard. Models of the SG with a vibrato tailpiece are now a custom item or a special edition model.

The first SG that had active factory pickups was introduced in 1980. Gibson tested an SG model with the same active Moog electronics that were being used (or had been used) in a previous model called the RD Artist. This experimental SG sported a thicker body due to the extraneous added circuitry. This model was lovingly nicknamed the "Gibson SG-R1".

The SG-R1 was made of solid mahogany with a black glossy finish. It had no pick guard, the fret inlays were "dots" opposed to original trapezoid shapes and it featured transparent barrel knobs for the treble and bass controls ranging from "0" to "+5" or "-5" instead of "1" to "10". There was also an extra switch to activate a "boost" on the bridge pickup.

The SG-R1 had a fixed bridge with a tremolo/whammy bar standard. Gibson renamed the SG-R1 the "SG Artist" circa 1981 and subsequently discontinued it. Of these SG's, there were only about 200 ever made.

Today the Gibson SG guitar is still as popular as ever and is used by some of the top guitarists to ever strap on an axe. Some of Gibson's loyal users are Angus Young (AC/DC), Hank Williams Jr, Jeff Tweedy (Wilco), Marilyn Manson, Nic Cester (Jet), Pete Townshend (The Who), Shakira and Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath).

Why is there practically no material by Black Sabbath on iTunes with Ozzy Osbourne as singer?

The only stuff by Black Sabbath on iTunes seems to be the Dio years or some live stuff from later.

Short answer is differences in thought about copyright. Ozzy (Sharon) holds those rights I believe.

The breakup was messy and they still cannot even agree about some kind of 'reunion' tour... and it has been more than a couple years.

I first stumbled upon Doctor Who Season 1-4 DVD on PBS back when I was about 9 or 10. They were showing repeats from the Tom Baker era (this was when Peter Davison was the Doctor in real time) and they just hooked me! Doctor Who Season 1-4 DVD was full of low budget cheesy effects but the stories and the imagination behind them are what got me the most. Daleks and Cybermen stalked my childhood nightmares while words like sonic screwdriver, Time Lord, vortex, time lines, TARDIS, ect became part of my vocab. My childhood would have been significantly poorer without the good Doctor and his TARDIS. Our product has high quality, the price is also very cheap, so i think if you can purchase it on our website, it is the best choice if you can purchase on our website.

The Quran decisively forbids saying that Allah has a son

The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran (19)

This is the 19th article of the series:" The Sons of the Lord God in Bible versus Quran".

The Bible says: Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. Be holy in all you do; Live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. But with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.  For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall.

The Noble Quran says that Jesus, the son of Mary, was only a messenger sent to his people; and it is an unforgivable sin if you say or believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or sons; this major sin will lead to the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter. Also the Quran says that the whole worlds, not only this world, are under the control of Allah.

In addition, the Bible says that the precious blood of Christ is as of a lamb. According to the Quran, it is an insult to say that Jesus' blood or any other prophet's blood is like a lamb's blood.

Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. The Sons of the Lord God in the Quran (19)

The Noble Quran says that even the believers among the Jinn (invisible creatures) believe that Allah, the Almighty Creator) has taken neither spouse nor son as the disbelievers claim; and that Satan used to utter atrocious lies against God, by attributing to Him a spouse and a son.

Also, the Quran answers the claim of the Jews and the Christians who said

None shall enter Paradise except those who are Jews or Christians

Each party separately was claiming Paradise for its members exclusively.

Essentially, the Quran decisively forbids saying that Allah has a son.

It is not befitting for the Majesty of Allah to take to Himself a son.

Allah is exalted, magnified; He is above what they associate with Him of son or partners.  Allah is far transcendent above all that they ascribe unto Him!

In Islam, this point is very important faith wise.

1. Again, it is unforgivable sin to say or to believe that the One Almighty Creator [who is Allah or God or the Lord or Jehovah or whatever name(s) you are giving Him] has a son or Sons.

From the Islamic point of view, the conclusion of this essential topic that may establish or destroy the faith is that:

Any one who believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or Sons; he messes up his faith and is considered as a disbeliever and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the hell.

Any one who believes that the Almighty Creator has no son or partner, he has a good faith and is considered as a believer; and in the afterlife, he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the paradise. 

Verses 72:1-5 and 2:111-112 of the Noble Quran make the topic of the son(s) of God plain, clear and understandable.

Verse 72:1

The background of the verse

The Prophet Muhammad was praying the Morning Pray (about one hour before the sun rise) at a location which is near Mecca. The Prophet was reciting the Quran during his Morning Pray. Then, it happened that a company of nine jinn listened to the recitation of the Prophet Muhammad.

These Jinn believed in the Quran.

Upon returning to their folk (their tribe of Jinn), after accepting faith, they said to them: O our folk! We have listened to the recitation of a marvelous Quran, which guides to righteousness.

These jinn were those mentioned in Allah’s saying:

"And when Allah sent a company of jinn your way…’ [See verse 46:29].

Jinn are invisible creatures; the Angel Gabriel has come down and informed the Prophet Muhammad about their story.

The meaning of the verse 72:1:

Say, O Muhammad, to the disbelievers of Mecca that it has been revealed to me that a company of Jinn listened (to the Qur'an); and they said: "we have really heard a marvelous recital!"

 

The meanings of verse 72:2

The Jinn continue: "The marvelous recital we have heard guides to rectitude, to faith and propriety; which leads to the Truth, guidance and right course, i.e. to “there is no deity except Allah”, Therefore we believe in it and we will never, after this day, associate anyone with our Lord (and we ascribe unto our Lord no partner)".

 

The meanings of verse 72:3

The Jinn continue: "And, now we believe that He-exalted be the glory of our Lord and that the dominion of our Lord is exalted; the tremendousness, sovereignty, absoluteness and attributes of our Lord are far exalted; transcendent is His majesty and magnificence above what is ascribed to Him.

And He has taken neither spouse nor son as the disbelievers claim",

 

The meanings of verse 72:4

The Jinn continue: "And that the devil, Satan, the foolish and the ignorant one among us used to utter atrocious lies against God, extreme calumny by attributing to Him a spouse and a son".

 

The meanings of verse 72:5

The Jinn continue: "And we thought that humans and jinn would never utter a lie against God, by attributing such things to Him, until we discovered their mendacity thereby.  In other words, the verse says: And lo! We had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah) and we thought that what humans and the jinn said about Allah was not a lie, but we know now that it is".

From the beginning of the Surah (Chapter 72) up to this verse, Allah related what the jinn said.  The interested reader is invited to read the whole Surah (chapter 72) of the Noble Quran.

The meanings of Verse 2:111

The Jews and the Christians who used to dwell around the Saudi Arabia said when they disputed with the Prophet Muhammad: "None shall enter Paradise except those who are Jews or Christians".  Each party separately was claiming Paradise for its members exclusively.

Allah answered both of them in this verse and said:

"Such, sayings, are their vain desires, their false passions. Say, to them O Muhammad: ‘Bring your proof from your own respective Books (if you are truthful) in your claim".

 

The meanings of Verse 2:112

Nay, it is certainly not as you have claimed, but whoever submits his whole self to Allah (his Almighty Creator) and is a doer of good, whoever makes sincere his Religion and works to Allah,  he will get his reward with his lord in Paradise; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. In other words, there shall no fear come upon them about staying eternally in hell neither shall they grieve about the prospect of missing Paradise.

QARIB: say: 'it is revealed to me that a party of jinn listened then said: "we have indeed heard a wonderful koran,

PICKTHAL: say (o Muhammad): it is revealed unto me that a company of the jinn gave ear, and they said: lo! we have heard a marvellous Qur'an,

YUSUFALI: say: it has been revealed to me that a company of jinns listened (to the Qur'an). they said, 'we have really heard a wonderful recital!

 

Verse 72:2

QARIB: that guides to the right path. we believe in it and we will not associate anyone with our lord.

SHAKIR: guiding to the right way, so we believe in it, and we will not set up any one with our lord:

PICKTHAL: which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe no partner unto our lord.

YUSUFALI: 'it gives guidance to the right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our lord.

 

Verse 72:3

QARIB: he exalted be the majesty of our lord, who has neither taken to himself a wife, nor a son!

SHAKIR: and that he-- exalted be the majesty of our lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son:

PICKTHAL: and (we believe) that he - exalted be the glory of our lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son,

YUSUFALI: 'and exalted is the majesty of our lord: he has taken neither a wife nor a son.

 

Verse 72:4

QARIB: the ignorant fool among us has spoken outrageously against Allah,

SHAKIR: and that the foolish amongst us used to forge extravagant things against Allah:

PICKTHAL: and that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie.

YUSUFALI: 'there were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

 

Verse 72:5

QARIB: we never thought that either human or jinn would ever tell a lie against Allah!" '

SHAKIR: and that we thought that men and jinn did not utter a lie against Allah:

PICKTHAL: and lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah -

YUSUFALI: 'but we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that untrue against Allah.

QARIB: they say: 'none but Jews and Nazarenes shall be admitted to paradise. ' such are their wishful fancies. say: 'bring us your proof, if what you say is true. '

SHAKIR: and they say: none shall enter the garden (or paradise) except he who is a Jew or a Christian. these are their vain desires. say: bring your proof if you are truthful

PICKTHAL: and they say: none entereth paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian. these are their own desires. say: bring your proof (of what ye state) if ye are truthful.

YUSUFALI: and they say: "none shall enter paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian." those are their (vain) desires. say: "produce your proof if ye are truthful."

 

Verse 2:112

QARIB: indeed, whoever submits his face to Allah and does good works shall be rewarded by his lord; there they shall have nothing to fear nor shall they be saddened.

SHAKIR: yes! whoever submits himself entirely to Allah and he is the doer of good (to others) he has his reward from his lord, and there is no fear for him nor shall he grieve

PICKTHAL: nay, but whosoever surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good, his reward is with his lord; and there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

YUSUFALI: nay,-whoever submits his whole self to Allah and is a doer of good,- he will get his reward with his lord; on such shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

Was the band Genesis better with Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins?

why?

Both.

Both phases of Genesis had their good and bad points. With Gabriel sometimes the Songs were unfocuced and just rambled, with Collins sometimes they were just too poppy.

Ford has proven that it knows how to make small trucks and SUVs, and hasn't felt the need to entirely overhaul the Ranger through decades of manufacture. Models made for the '98 model year have been revamped in a few ways including an increased extended cab, a new 4 wheel drive system, and larger room for passengers in the rear.

Overall the body style remains the same as when it redesigned in the early 1990's. There are minimal curves in the front, while the rear of the truck remains rather square in shape. Most models are available with either a 6 or 7 foot cargo bed with an optional liner. Fx4 models are highly respected off road vehicles. They are made with better suspension parts and a raised body for better clearance in off road situations. The off road package comes with a nice interior with a plethora of interior options, better cloth fabrics, and different body colors and paint designs. Sport models have been engineered for better street performance and handle more similar to a sedan than a truck.

The 1998 Ford Ranger comes with a standard 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine. Other engines available include a 3.0 liter V6 and a 4.0 liter V6. There are either 5 speed manual transmissions or 4 speed automatics equipped on these pickups. The larger V6 comes standard on both the Fx4 and Sport models. Ford also upgraded the four wheel drive system so that the hub caps automatically lock for drivers, allowing them to stay in their trucks while switching between 2 and 4 wheel drive.

The largest competitors for the Ranger is the Chevy S-10 and Toyota Tacoma. Each has their own highlights and are relatively similar in the MPG category. As far as price is concerned the Ranger is the lowest in the class and is possibly one of the reasons why it is the most popular. Consumers looking for a well rounded vehicle that is known for reliability should consider a 1998 Ford Ranger. The trucks offer owners a low maintenance vehicle that will allow them to save a lot at the fuel pump compared with a full sized pickup.

Can I swap the Ford cassette player for a Ford CD player?

I just bought a '99 Focus yesterday, it has the standard Ford cassette player but I'm thinking of buying the Ford CD player for it. It's the same shape, just wondering if the wiring would match.

You will have no problems upgrading the cassette for a CD, both have standard ISO connectors.
If you are buying the CD second hand make sure you have the security code for the CD before you try to install it.

Rap punchlines are to hip hop like slam dunks are to basketball: if done correctly, they bring a crowd to their feet. However, if you mess up, it's just about the most awkward and embarrassing situation imaginable.

Freestyle battle rap punchlines are given a little more slack than their written counterparts, since they are off the top of the head. A decent freestyle rap punchline can bring the house down, and if you screw up, well, what the heck, you were just freestyling anyways...

Let's take a look at different types of rap punchlines:

The set up/smack down approach. In keeping with the basketball analogy, think of a solid punchline like an alley oop: the first line sets up, the second line slams it home. For example, "I respond back, just like a restaurateur/ leave your ass feeling served while you're eating your words."

Internal rhymes. When you can string several multi-syllable rhymes together, it makes the phrase that much more deadly. For example, here's a line TheSaurus, one of the greatest battle MC's today, said: "I'll smoke you like a purple eighth, and give you an early date at the pearly gates." Ouch...

The reversal. This is where you take your opponents line and use it against him. For example, let's say someone calls you a nerd in a battle. You can respond "This guy claims I'm a nerd, well I guess that's true/ A nerd with words and verses much smarter than you!" OR "You call me a nerd 'cause of big words in my rapping? Son, your IQ's like your skill...totally lacking."
