What is a system Hard Disk? Maybe every computer user knows the answer but most of the new computer users have less knowledge about this most vital component of PC.

What is Hard Disk:

A hard disk is a magnetic disk on which you store system data. It usually offers more storage and faster access to data than floppy disks (first storage device) do. In a hard disk a motor-driven spindle within a metal case has some rotating rigid platters which can be one or more depend on various hard disks. Whatever we read or write in our system, the data is stored in hard drive.

How does the hard disk store data?

On each of the platters of hard drive there is a thin layer of magnetic film. Data storage on hard drives is very comparable to that of a cassette tape. Data is stored in many 1's & 0's. These binary digits are arranged in dissimilar ways to represent dissimilar characters. When these are read back via the head the data is retrieved & processed.

A system drive is separated into drives having main function to store the data in their drive. In which C drive is by default comes in all hard drives because all OS (Operating Systems) and software files is stored in this by default. Each drive is selected a certain space 20 GB to C drive or 40 GB to D drive this all depends of total size of hard drive. Drives names and size can be changed according to user at the time of OS (Operating system) installation.

Why is system hard drive one of the most important part of the computer? Because it stored the all-important data of computer user which he needs in future for various purposes. The data can be personal or professional which can be important for a company business. Or it can be personal images which is memorable part of your life.

If we lose our important data due to hard drive failure then this will be a really very serious and provoking situation for us. And after that how get back lost data from failure hard drive is a big question for us.

I own several Hi8 cassettes with video which I want to convert to digital, but I have no camera to xfer?

Would prefer as direct as possible conversion method (I.e tape deck that connects to pc/mac)

Have a look for a Digital8 camcorder that can read Hi8 tapes - it'll digitise and transfer the video in one go. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

Some of the Sony DCR-TRV range have this backwards compatibility, but I can't remember which ones. If you keep an eye on eBay, Craigslist etc you should be able to pick one up at a reasonable price.
